[ He lets out a breath, tearing apart his roll into even tinier pieces on his plate. ]

[ he is a grown ass man, loki. he has managed to survive this long without anyone watching over him, so he thinks he'll be fine here. ]

We are not friends so I will never lie to you, [ that sure is something to wrap your head around, ] so trust me when I tell you that you are acting like a man terrified of so much as ending up in a newspaper after being literally all over his homeworld's media practically since he was born, and it is sus.

I'm not terrified, Loki. Publicity doesn't scare me, but that doesn't mean I have to covet or want any part of it when a better alternative is available. Just because I'm not jumping out of my seat for attention doesn't mean there is something wrong with me. I have no choice but to be in the spotlight back home and I've long accepted that facet of my life. The circumstances are different here though. Being splashed all over the covers of newspapers and tabloids based on my every action doesn't serve any purpose for me in this world. It would just be a nuisance to what I'm trying to achieve, so why would I go out of my way to put myself out there?

[ it would be the equivalent of shooting himself in the foot for absolutely no reason. ]

This isn't home. I won't turn a blind eye to injustices, but the problems of this earth aren't mine to shoulder. I can afford the discretion and the privacy here, and I actually enjoy it. [ it's like a rare reprieve — one that he didn't think he would regain after everyone in new amsterdam came to know him because of the aeries. after all, tony absolutely loathes the media disregarding how well he can navigate it. ]

[ Thor wouldn't act this way. Thor would be a hollering heroic type and appreciate the attention from mortals, they helped him enough in the past for him not to shy away from their many uses on the sidelines; Loki knows, he pushed some of them in his brother's way. Tony isn't Thor, not by any means, so hearing him speak so rationally should make a lot of sense. ]

[ You feel like a tangle of lies. That's not exactly encouraging to say, he doesn't want to run him off. ]

You say this simple life you are leading is what you want, so why do I feel like you are somehow living in the eye of a storm?

[ He's good at reading people, the best in Asgard (save perhaps Heimdall), so Loki doesn't sound conflicted by his assessment. ]

[ Gods, he wants a shower. Loki wants to not be himself as he internally squirms under that blue gaze, flicking through his options. ]

Bathroom break. [ His chair scrapes back. ] Don't touch my buns unless you want the full wrath of two realms upon your head.

[ Being hungover is such a pain, the indignity is worse than the queasiness by far. Gripping the sink in the bathroom, Loki pulls down his grotty hat-hoodie combo and cracks his knuckles as he thinks Why am I like this and sloughs off one form for another, one without as many foul connotations attached to it. He feels far too exposed in front of Tony (whose eyes are probably fucking recording him looking pathetic to show the Avengers at their next hubbub.

(That's paranoia, but it works for him in the moment. Impetus.)

The woman who returns to their table has the same hungover-pink cheeks but freshening up was taken to a literal level, long hair braided over a shoulder and a layer of War-paint make-up putting together a much better picture. That was shapeshifting, it was easy, whereas her magic went a bit wonky so her outfit was kept to some muted leggings with a tied off shirt (Peter's, she may have grabbed both garments through a hasty portal in the mirror).

Loki slides into her seat, legs folding, and goes back to picking at her cinnamon rolls. ]

I did some thinking in there. You're undergoing so much downtime, surely you have enough spare to build me something.

he doesn't know whether to look amused or bemused, so instead, he simply picks up his coffee for another steady sip. should he question it? he kinda wants to question it, but it also feels like opening another can of worms. his encounters with loki so far have all just been either very baffling or aggravating.

I'd like seven bracelets. They alert one another if there's an emergency and let the other wearers know the identity of the caller in distress, faster than a text or a call with a simple tap.

[ As the server comes over to fetch Loki's plate of shredded rolls her eyes switch up and she lights a smile, thanking him. May I please have a replacement? This one was burned. He scuttles away with a fluster.

The same green eyes flick back to Tony and the sweetly apologetic expression melts away. ]

I could forge something similar myself but it would be through magic. Not a lot of people would trust a gift like that, coming from me.
