You said to be better than the things people say about you. Gods have no history, we are stories.

Did you know that my brother has fought wars that lasted a hundred years, liberated entire realms, and he remembers none of it because the tales never stuck? Centuries are nothing to a god. Over in the blink of an eye ... so, it's as if those things never existed.

[ Loki looks up from his cooling coffee. ]

Stories are just lies, and lies can be anything you can think up if you believe in them hard enough.

That is the byproduct of time though, isn't it? As time passes, most people will be forgotten and, for the ones who manage to make it into history books, they will become the written words of those who have taken it upon themselves to tell their stories.

[ he crosses his hands on top of the table as he leans slightly forward. ]

Even for immortals, memories will become blurred or even lost through the centuries if they aren't recorded. Stories can hold as much truths to them as lies, but they ultimately rely on the perceived speculation of the storyteller. To be defined by these stories is giving the storyteller too much power, isn't it? The perception of you may be external, but that doesn't mean you have to internalize it.

Defining stories is what gives me power, yes, but perception has little to do with it when the lie changes a thing so completely.
